Motion Detection

A camera or sensor feature that reacts when it sees or senses movement, for example to record or send an alert. Zones and sensitivity settings help reduce false alerts from trees, shadows or passing traffic.

How it works

Motion detection identifies changes within a monitored image or sensing area. A video detector may react to movement without knowing whether it is a person, animal, shadow or foliage. Object classification is a separate capability that must be supported and configured.

A practical example

A camera overlooking a tree can produce repeated alerts in wind. Narrowing the detection area or adjusting supported filters may help, but excessive filtering can hide relevant movement. Test the actual entrance rather than only the app preview.

What to check

Define the area, schedule and action triggered by an event. Test realistic movement in daylight and darkness, including the edges of the scene. Confirm that notifications and recording both work; successful detection alone does not prove delivery or storage.

Limits and safe next steps

Avoid promising that every intrusion will be detected. Lighting, obstruction, weather and configuration affect results. Respect neighbouring and shared spaces, restrict access to footage and use proportionate retention rather than recording indefinitely.
