How it works
A favicon is a small site icon used in browser interfaces and potentially in search results. It helps recognition when several tabs are open. Its source should be reachable and its design should remain identifiable at small sizes, with sufficient contrast and a simple silhouette.
A realistic example
A detailed logo that looks attractive in a header may turn into an unreadable blur in a tab. Use a suitable simplified brand mark rather than shrinking every detail. Keep the public icon URL stable when updating the file.
What to check
Check the icon link in the HTML head, response status, image format and small-size appearance. Test light and dark browser surroundings. Confirm that robots rules allow fetching the relevant homepage and icon, and that language pages identify the same legitimate site.
Limits and next steps
Providing an icon does not guarantee a particular search presentation. An icon is not a replacement for a readable site name or accessible labels. Avoid an unrelated symbol that could mislead visitors about the identity of the website.
