How it works
A smart plug switches a connected electrical load through supported controls. The appliance must tolerate that switching and the plug must suit its load and environment. Energy monitoring, local control and scheduling are optional features, not guaranteed by the name.
A practical example
A lamp with a retained physical switch setting may work well, while another appliance remains off after power returns. Naming the plug for its connected device makes commands clearer, but does not change the appliance’s electrical compatibility.
What to check
Check voltage, current, load type and indoor or outdoor rating against the exact manual. Test ordinary manual switching and the behaviour after power or network loss. Review account permissions and the schedule actually stored in the system.
Limits and safe next steps
Do not connect hazardous unattended loads or exceed ratings. A smart plug is not a substitute for appliance safety controls. Stop using damaged equipment and use qualified electrical advice when the installation or load is uncertain.
